Chapter 6 – Love Never Reached the Grave
One year later, the cemetery no longer felt like a place of endings.
It had become the place where a broken family found one another.
Every Sunday, Emily and Noah visited with fresh white lilies.
The grieving mother always carried her son's favorite coffee, placing it beside the headstone before sitting quietly on the grass.
Noah, now learning to speak, would point at the smiling photo engraved on the stone.
"Papa."
Each time, the two women smiled instead of weeping.
They told him stories about the brave man who had loved him long before he was born.
A man who gave everything to protect the people he cherished.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the grandmother looked at the engraved name one last time.
"I thought death had taken everything from me."
She glanced at Emily and Noah laughing together.
"But love found its way back."
The wind gently stirred the white lilies.
