Chapter 3: The Underground Room

The maintenance uniform belonged to a former subway contractor named Victor Hale.
He had disappeared from work the morning after Grace vanished.
Police searched every tunnel connected to the station.
Hours later, one officer noticed fresh scratches behind a locked service door.
Inside was an abandoned electrical room.
Dust covered everything...
...except one corner.
There sat a folding chair.
A blanket.
Empty food containers.
And a notebook.
On the first page was Grace's handwriting.
If anyone finds this... I'm still alive.
The officers rushed deeper inside.
Behind a false storage wall they discovered a narrow passage leading into an unused service tunnel.
At the very end...
They heard weak knocking.
Detective Mason shouted.
"Grace! Can you hear me?"
Three slow knocks answered.
Rescue crews broke through the rusted steel barrier.
Curled inside a tiny hidden chamber...
Weak.
Hungry.
But alive...
Grace blinked against the flashlight.
The first words she whispered were,
"My mother... is she still waiting for me?"
Outside the station...
Evelyn collapsed into tears as paramedics carried her daughter into the ambulance.
Thirty-one days of heartbreak ended with one embrace.
But Victor Hale had already disappeared again.
