Chapter 2: The Hidden Camera

Within minutes, the subway station was sealed off.
Police officers carefully took the silver locket from Sam while detectives questioned everyone who had witnessed the rescue.
Grace's mother, Evelyn, couldn't stop staring at the tiny photographs inside.
"I gave this to her on her twenty-first birthday," she whispered. "She never took it off."
Detective Mason frowned.
"If this was on the tracks, someone wanted it to disappear."
The station manager suddenly remembered something.
"There was an old maintenance camera facing this section of the platform. It stopped working the night Grace disappeared."
The footage was almost completely corrupted.
Almost.
A technician managed to recover twelve seconds.
The blurry video showed Grace kneeling near the platform edge.
She wasn't running.
She wasn't fighting.
She was reaching toward something moving beneath the tracks.
A tiny gray kitten.
The very same kitten Sam had rescued.
Then another figure appeared behind her.
A tall man wearing a black maintenance jacket.
The screen glitched.
When the image returned...
Grace was gone.
Only the man remained.
Detective Mason slowly leaned back.
"Grace didn't vanish."
"Someone took her."
For the first time in thirty-one days...
The investigation had a suspect.
