Chapter 2 — The Price of a Stolen Name

Outside the ballroom...
Police vehicles arrived.
Blue lights reflected across the marble entrance.
Ethan tried one last time to run.
He never made it past the front steps.
Detectives surrounded him.
"Mr. Ethan Whitmore..."
"You're under investigation for identity fraud, corporate espionage, forgery, and financial theft."
Madison stared at him.
"You told me your family owned everything!"
Ethan laughed bitterly.
"I almost did."
She slapped him.
"You ruined my life!"
"No," Ethan answered.
"You wanted the money."
"You never cared where it came from."
She froze.
Because it was true.
Every decision she had made...
Every relationship...
Every betrayal...
Had been based on one assumption.
Money first.
Everything else second.
As officers placed Ethan into the police car, reporters surrounded Madison.
"Care to comment?"
"Were you involved?"
"Did you know the inheritance papers were fake?"
Camera flashes exploded.
Only hours earlier she had dreamed of magazine covers.
Now...
She covered her face from them.
Inside the ballroom, Benjamin quietly canceled every partnership connected to Ethan's fraudulent network.
Within forty-eight hours...
Companies collapsed.
Luxury homes were seized.
Bank accounts were frozen.
An empire built on lies disappeared almost overnight.
