As investigators secured financial records, the Chairwoman asked for one person.
"The security guard from the lobby."
Minutes later, he entered nervously.
"I've embarrassed the bank, Madam."
"No," she replied.
"You protected it."
He looked confused.
"You stopped a stranger from entering a restricted area."
"You followed policy."
"You treated me respectfully."
"That's exactly what I expect from every employee."
She then asked him a surprising question.
"If the CEO had ordered you to ignore security procedures for a wealthy customer, what would you have done?"
He hesitated only briefly.
"I would have reported it."
Silence filled the room.
The Chairwoman smiled for the first time that day.
"Good answer."
She handed him a new identification badge.
Effective immediately, he was promoted to Head of Corporate Security for the entire banking group.
Across the table, several executives lowered their heads.
