Chapter 3: The Hidden Truth About Their Mother

Chapter 3: The Hidden Truth About Their Mother

Several weeks later, Oliver entered Daniel's study carrying a dusty wooden box.

It had belonged to their late mother, Emily.

"We found this in the attic," Daniel whispered.

Inside were dozens of journals.

Letters.

Photographs.

And one unopened envelope.

Across the front, Emily had written:

For Daniel—when you're finally ready to listen.

His hands shook as he opened it.

Inside was a letter.

Emily confessed that after the twins were diagnosed as deaf, she had begged Daniel to learn sign language with her.

But his business responsibilities always came first.

She never blamed him.

She simply hoped one day he would understand that love required presence, not perfection.

Daniel cried openly.

For the first time since her funeral.

That evening he showed Arya the letter.

She quietly smiled.

"She never stopped believing in you."

Daniel looked toward the garden, where Oliver and Sophie were laughing while teaching each other new signs.

"No," he answered softly.

"She believed in the father I still had time to become."
