THE TRUE MISTRESS OF THE HOUSE / Chapter 1 / 3 12

PART 2: THE TRUE MISTRESS OF THE HOUSE

The silence inside the mansion became unbearable.

Veronica stared at Alejandro.

Then at Martha.

Then back again.

Her lips trembled.

"What... what did you just say?"

Alejandro didn't answer immediately.

Instead...

He gently wiped the tears from Martha's face.

The same way a son comforts the woman who raised him.

"I said," he repeated calmly,

"She is my mother."

Gasps echoed through the hall.

Every servant looked at Martha with new eyes.

The woman they had always respected...

Had been the true heart of the Carrington mansion all along.

Veronica forced a nervous laugh.

"This is ridiculous."

"If she's your mother... why has she been working here as a maid?"

Alejandro slowly turned toward the family portraits lining the staircase.

"My father was ashamed of his own past."

"He fell in love with a poor village girl."

"Martha."

"When he inherited the family fortune, his relatives demanded he abandon her."

"He refused."

"So they made her disappear."

Years ago...

The Carrington family paid Martha to leave.

Not because she had done anything wrong...

But because they believed she wasn't worthy of their name.

She accepted only because she wanted Alejandro to grow up without becoming the center of a family war.

She stayed close.

Working quietly inside the mansion.

Watching her son grow.

Never once asking for recognition.

Never calling herself "Mother."

Tears rolled down the servants' faces.

Martha lowered her eyes.

"I only wanted him to have a peaceful life."

Alejandro squeezed her hand.

"You sacrificed everything for me."

Then he looked at Veronica.

"And today..."

"You humiliated the one person who deserves my gratitude more than anyone."

Veronica suddenly pointed at the empty jewelry box.

"But she still stole my necklace!"

Alejandro slowly smiled.

A cold...

Dangerous smile.

"I was waiting for you to say that."

He snapped his fingers.

"Bring him in."

The front doors opened.

The mansion's head of security walked inside...

Holding a laptop.

"I've recovered every second of the security footage."

Veronica's face turned white.

Because she suddenly remembered...

One hidden camera.

The one she had forgotten.
