Ethan could no longer hide.
He slowly approached Maya.
"I'm sorry."
His voice cracked.
"I was afraid of my mother."
Maya looked at him for a long time.
"I wasn't asking you to fight the world."
Her words were quiet.
"I only needed you to stand beside me."
He lowered his head.
"I know."
"You watched her slap me."
"I know."
"You let our son hear his mother called worthless."
"I know."
Tears finally filled Ethan's eyes.
"Please... give me another chance."
Maya gently kissed her baby's forehead.
"You didn't lose me tonight."
"You lost me every time you stayed silent."
She removed her wedding ring.
Placed it in Ethan's palm.
Then walked toward Colonel Vance.
The old soldier offered his arm.
Not as a commander.
But as family.
