Chapter 2: The Debt That Could Never Be Repaid

Daniel invited Ethan into the kitchen.

Nothing had changed.

The same worn stove.

The same cast-iron skillet.

The same faded family photographs hanging on the wall.

Ethan ran his fingers across the old countertop.

"I used to dream about this place," he admitted.

Daniel chuckled.

"I only gave you breakfast."

Ethan slowly shook his head.

"No."

"You gave me dignity."

He looked down at the silver coin.

"That morning... after I left here..."

"I decided that if one stranger could believe I mattered..."

"Then maybe I did."

Daniel stood speechless.

Ethan continued.

"I studied in shelters."

"I worked every job I could find."

"I earned scholarships."

"I built a business."

"But every major decision I made..."

"I asked myself one question."

'What would the chef who fed me do?'

Daniel quietly wiped away a tear.

Just then...

The manager walked out of the office.

Older now.

Gray-haired.

But instantly recognizable.

He stared at Ethan...

Then at the silver coin.

His face slowly lost all color.

"I remember you..."

Ethan nodded calmly.

"So do I."

The room became painfully silent.
