PART 2: The Missing Mother

The hospital staff worked through the night.
The baby was dehydrated and underweight, but doctors believed he would recover.
The little girl refused to leave his side.
Every few minutes she reached over to check if he was breathing.
Officer Daniel couldn't stop thinking about her.
Something about the story didn't make sense.
Children didn't survive alone for three days unless they believed someone was coming back.
The next morning he sat beside her hospital bed.
"What happened to your mother?"
The girl's eyes filled with tears.
"She went to get food."
"And then?"
"She never came back."
Daniel spent the entire day searching.
Missing persons reports.
Hospital records.
Emergency calls.
Anything.
Then he found it.
A woman matching the mother's description had been hit by a truck three days earlier.
She had been carrying grocery bags.
No identification.
No phone.
She remained unconscious in a nearby hospital.
Daniel immediately drove there.
The moment he saw her photo, he knew.
It was the children's mother.
His chest tightened.
She hadn't abandoned them.
She had been trying to feed them.
Hours later, Daniel brought the little girl to the hospital room.
The mother slowly opened her eyes.
For a moment she looked confused.
Then she saw her daughter.
"My baby..."
The girl burst into tears.
"I thought you left us."
The woman began sobbing.
"I would never leave you."
The room fell silent.
Even the nurses wiped away tears.
For the first time in days, the little girl finally let go of the fear she had been carrying.
But there was still one problem.
The family had nowhere to go.
No home.
May you like
No money.
And no future waiting for them outside those hospital walls.
