CHAPTER 3 — THE TRUTH THE WORLD NEVER EXPECTED

The following morning, Nathan canceled every business meeting.
Instead, he invited his family, board members, close friends, and several reporters to the Carter Estate.
Everyone expected an announcement about the company's future.
Instead...
Nathan walked onto the stage holding Emily's hand.
Behind them stood three nervous children.
His mother crossed her arms.
"So you've decided to introduce her mistakes to society?"
Nathan looked directly at her.
"No."
"I'm introducing my family."
The room erupted into whispers.
Nathan picked up a folder.
Inside were adoption records...
Death certificates...
Hospital files...
Letters written by Emily's late sister.
One by one, every document proved the truth.
Emily had never abandoned anyone.
She had rescued children everyone else had forgotten.
She had worked three jobs.
Skipped meals.
Sold her own belongings.
Lived in tiny rented rooms.
All so the children could stay together.
The reporters fell silent.
Several guests lowered their heads in shame.
Nathan's mother stared at the papers with trembling hands.
"I... I didn't know."
Emily answered gently.
"You never asked."
One reporter stood.
"Mrs. Carter... after everything they called you... why didn't you defend yourself?"
Emily smiled.
"Because children don't need a hero with a perfect reputation."
"They need someone who refuses to leave."
Not a single person in the room could hold back their tears.
