Chapter 2: The Woman Who Shouldn't Be Alive

The mansion remained frozen in silence.

Andrew stared at Mara as though he had seen a ghost.

"You can't be Juliet," he whispered. "I buried my wife."

Mara slowly shook her head.

"You buried someone else's body."

Celine's breathing became uneven.

"She's insane!" she shouted. "Call security!"

But before anyone moved, the oldest triplet tugged on Andrew's sleeve.

"Daddy... look."

The little boy held out a silver locket that Mara had unconsciously touched around her neck.

Andrew's face drained of color.

He had given that locket to Juliet on the day their children were born.

Inside were three tiny newborn footprints.

No one else knew it existed.

No one.

"Where did you get that?" Andrew asked.

"It never left me," Mara answered softly.

She took a deep breath.

"The night my car went over the cliff... I survived."

A passing fisherman had found her unconscious downstream after the river carried her away from the wreckage.

She had suffered severe head injuries.

For months, she remembered nothing.

Not her name.

Not her family.

Not even her children.

The doctors called her "Mara" because it was the only word she whispered while unconscious.

Nearly two years later...

Her memories returned.

Every single one.

Including the face of the woman standing beside the road...

Watching her car disappear into the darkness.

"Celine."

The room became deathly quiet.

Andrew slowly turned toward his fiancée.

For the first time...

She couldn't meet his eyes.
