Chapter 3 — The Invisible Woman

Three months later.
The empire still stood.
But everything inside it had changed.
Anthony accepted a life sentence for conspiracy to commit murder and the killing of Nico Bellini.
Veronica received decades in federal prison for attempted murder, fraud, and criminal conspiracy.
The corrupt senator resigned before being indicted.
Dominic personally attended Nico Bellini's funeral.
For the first time in years, New York saw the feared businessman cry openly.
After everyone had left the cemetery, Dominic visited another familiar place.
St. Gabriel's Medical Center.
Grace was quietly changing flowers in another patient's room when she heard footsteps behind her.
She turned.
"Mr. Moretti."
Dominic smiled.
"No."
"Just Dominic."
She laughed nervously.
"I only did what anyone should have done."
He shook his head.
"No."
"You did what everyone else was too afraid to do."
He handed her a small envelope.
Inside was the deed to a beautiful house near the lake where she had grown up.
Another document established the Nico Bellini Foundation, providing scholarships for hospital workers, cleaners, orderlies, and support staff whose quiet acts of courage often went unnoticed.
Grace looked up, tears filling her eyes.
"I don't deserve this."
Dominic smiled gently.
"My father used to tell me something."
"The people who save your life are rarely the ones standing in front of cameras."
He glanced around the busy hospital corridor.
Doctors hurried past.
Executives walked by without noticing the housekeeping staff.
Just as they always had.
"But I notice now."
Grace smiled through her tears.
For the first time since the crash, Dominic felt something heavier than revenge finally leave his heart.
He had faked a coma to discover who wanted him dead.
Instead...
He discovered the one person honest enough to help him live.
Sometimes the greatest loyalty doesn't wear an expensive suit.
Sometimes it carries a mop, replaces wilted flowers, and quietly tells the truth when everyone else is pretending not to hear.
The End.
