Chapter 1: The Letter in the Safe

The courtroom remained under lockdown.

No one was allowed to leave.

Detectives surrounded Clara before she could take a single step toward the exit. Her attorney demanded the recording be dismissed as fabricated, but the judge wasn't listening anymore.

The toy phone was immediately handed to the forensic team.

Within an hour, experts confirmed the impossible.

The recording was authentic.

Mrs. Gable's murder trial was suspended.

Instead, Clara was escorted from the courtroom in handcuffs.

Meanwhile, investigators arrived at Arthur Sterling's private office.

His longtime attorney unlocked the billionaire's hidden safe using a code known only to Arthur and himself.

Inside were stacks of legal documents, encrypted flash drives...

...and one cream-colored envelope.

Across the front, written in Arthur's unmistakable handwriting, were the words:

"For Emily. Open only if I cannot protect you anymore."

The little girl looked confused.

"I've never met Mr. Sterling," she whispered.

The attorney knelt beside her.

"I don't think that's true."

Inside the envelope was a handwritten letter.

Emily... if you're reading this, it means they finally came for me.

You have spent your whole life believing you were an ordinary child.

You aren't.

Mrs. Gable covered her mouth.

The attorney continued reading.

Eight years ago, your parents were murdered because they discovered evidence of a multinational fraud involving Sterling Global's board of directors.

Before they died, they begged me to save you.

So I erased your identity.

Mrs. Gable became your legal guardian.

She sacrificed everything so you could survive.

Emily stared at Mrs. Gable with trembling eyes.

"You... saved me?"

Mrs. Gable finally nodded.

"I promised your parents."

The courtroom fell silent once again.

But the letter wasn't finished.
