Chapter 2: The Owner Returns

Three days later, a black sedan rolled through the iron gates of Carter Manor.

Emily stepped out wearing a simple navy suit instead of the expensive dresses her mother once insisted she wear. Richard Lawson walked beside her, carrying a leather briefcase.

The servants stared in disbelief.

"Miss Emily..."

Many of them lowered their heads respectfully. They had watched her grow up. Deep down, they had always known she had never deserved the way she was treated.

The front doors opened.

Her mother appeared at the top of the marble staircase with the same confidence she had worn for twenty-three years.

"So," she sneered. "You've come begging."

Emily didn't answer.

Richard calmly removed a folded document from his briefcase.

"I represent the legal owner of this estate."

Her mother's smile faded.

Richard continued.

"As of today, ownership is being formally exercised by Miss Emily Carter."

Silence swept through the mansion.

Her brother laughed nervously.

"This has to be fake."

Richard placed the original deed on the grand piano.

"The document has already been verified by the court."

Emily's fiancé stepped forward.

"Emily... listen... we can work this out."

She looked at him for a long moment.

"You accepted money to lie to me."

He couldn't deny it.

Richard handed each of them another document.

An eviction notice.

"You have forty-eight hours to vacate the property."

Her mother exploded.

"I raised you!"

Emily finally spoke.

"No."

"You lived in my father's house."

"And you spent twelve years making me believe I didn't belong here."

For the first time, her mother's confidence shattered.

She realized she no longer had any power.

The mansion had finally recognized its rightful owner.
