Chapter 3: The Truth Behind the Anger

Two days later, Emma was called to the Moretti estate.
The invitation terrified her.
She almost refused.
But medical bills forced her to go.
The mansion was unlike anything she had ever seen.
Security gates.
Private gardens.
Marble staircases.
A world completely different from her own.
Inside, Isabella greeted her warmly.
“Sit with me.”
Emma obeyed.
Over tea, Isabella shared a story few people knew.
Years earlier, Isabella and Victoria had been close friends.
Almost family.
But greed had destroyed everything.
Victoria had secretly manipulated a charity foundation they created together.
Millions intended for sick children had vanished.
The scandal had been buried quietly to protect innocent families.
But Isabella had never forgotten.
When they unexpectedly crossed paths at the gala, Victoria panicked.
She feared Isabella might finally reveal the truth.
That fear became anger.
And anger nearly became violence.
Emma listened in disbelief.
“Why didn’t you expose her?”
Isabella stared out the window.
“Because revenge often hurts innocent people.”
Before Emma could answer, Vincent entered the room.
He placed a folder on the table.
Inside were medical reports.
Her father's medical reports.
Emma's eyes widened.
“How did you—”
“You need help,” Vincent said.
“No.”
The answer came instantly.
Vincent raised an eyebrow.
“You haven't even looked.”
“I don't want charity.”
For the first time, a small smile appeared on Isabella's face.
“She really is stubborn.”
Vincent nodded.
“Good.”
Then he pushed another document toward her.
A job offer.
Not charity.
A position within the Moretti Foundation.
A real salary.
Medical coverage.
Support for her father's treatment.
Emma stared at the papers.
Her hands trembled.
For years she had fought alone.
For years no one had noticed.

Now someone finally had.
And she didn't know whether to cry or smile.
