Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Velvet Counters

Chapter 1: The Truth Behind the Velvet Counters

The showroom remained silent.

No one dared to move.

Not after Sebastián Valdés had called the soaked elderly woman "Mother."

Renata's confidence disappeared.

The same woman who had barked orders all afternoon now looked as though the marble floor might swallow her whole.

Sebastián slowly picked up Daniela's name badge.

He brushed a thumb across the engraved letters before looking at her.

"I asked you a question."

"Tell me everything."

Daniela hesitated.

She had never imagined speaking directly to the owner of Casa Valdés.

She glanced toward Renata.

For years that woman had controlled her life.

One word from Renata could decide who earned commissions...

...who worked overtime...

...who kept their job.

But something had changed.

Fear no longer lived inside Daniela.

She inhaled quietly.

Then she began.

She described how commissions mysteriously disappeared from sales records.

How loyal customers who specifically requested Daniela were reassigned to Renata's favorites.

How overtime hours vanished from payroll.

How employees were forced to buy luxury uniforms from their own salaries.

How anyone from a poor neighborhood became the target of constant humiliation.

One by one...

The sales associates lowered their eyes.

Until finally...

One spoke.

"She's telling the truth."

Another stepped forward.

"My commissions were stolen too."

Then another.

"And mine."

Within minutes...

Nearly every employee had come forward.

The legal director quietly opened his briefcase.

He wasn't taking casual notes anymore.

He was collecting evidence.

Sebastián looked toward the head of security.

"Retrieve every security recording."

"The payroll database."

"The commission records."

"And freeze every management account."

Renata finally found her voice.

"They're lying!"

"They're jealous!"

Sebastián never even looked at her.

Instead...

He turned toward his mother.

She simply nodded.

That was enough.

Security officers stepped beside Renata.

For the first time in years...

She wasn't giving orders.

She was receiving them.

As security escorted her toward the exit, she suddenly turned.

"You think you've won?"

She pointed at Daniela.

"You'll never survive in this world."

Daniela answered with the same calm voice she had used all afternoon.

"I'd rather struggle with dignity..."

"...than succeed without it."

The elevator doors closed.

And with them...

Renata's career at Casa Valdés ended forever.
