CHAPTER 4 — A SECOND CHANCE

CHAPTER 4 — A SECOND

CHANCE

Three months later.

Spring sunlight poured through the farmhouse windows.

Laughter filled the kitchen.

Emily sat at the table coloring pictures while Michael cooked pancakes.

"Dad!"

The word still stunned him every time.

"Dad, the bunny needs a doctor."

Michael laughed.

"Again?"

Emily nodded seriously.

"He has a broken ear."

"Then we'll save him."

She giggled.

The sound healed something inside him.

Across the room hung a framed photograph.

Sarah smiling beneath a summer sky.

Every morning, Michael and Emily placed fresh flowers beneath it.

Not because they were trapped in the past.

Because they carried her with them.

That afternoon, Michael walked Emily to school.

As they crossed the street, she slipped her tiny hand into his.

"Dad?"

"Yeah?"

"Mom was right."

Michael smiled softly.

"About what?"

Emily looked up at him.

"She said you'd find me one day."

Tears filled his eyes.

He squeezed her hand gently.

"I wish I had found you sooner."

Emily smiled.

"But you found me."

And somehow, those three words healed six years of pain.

As they continued walking beneath the bright spring sun, Michael finally understood something his mother once told him:

Life doesn't always give us the years we lose.

But sometimes, if we're lucky, it gives us the people we're meant to keep.

And this time...

He wasn't letting go.
