Chapter 2: A Family Built on Lies
Chapter 2: A Family Built on Lies
Victoria's father stormed forward.
"This wedding has cost millions! You can't simply walk away!"
Ethan met his gaze without fear.
"My mother spent twenty-eight years raising me alone."
"She worked three jobs."
"She skipped meals so I could eat."
"She sold her wedding jewelry so I could attend college."
His voice grew steadier.
"And today she was treated like garbage because she wore a housekeeping uniform."
He looked around the room.
"Anyone who thinks money makes that acceptable is free to leave with the Sterlings."
No one moved.
Several guests quietly lowered their heads.
Then another surprise arrived.
The hotel's security manager entered carrying a tablet.
"We've reviewed the hallway cameras."
Victoria froze.
The footage appeared on the ballroom's enormous LED screen.
There was no audio.
There didn't need to be.
Everyone watched Victoria block Diane's path.
Point.
Shout.
Raise her hand.
Strike her.
The flowers scattered across the hallway floor.
Then Victoria leaned close enough to be clearly threatening her before walking away.
Gasps filled the room.
Even Victoria's own parents looked horrified.
Her father slowly closed his eyes.
"You actually hit her..."
Victoria burst into tears.
"It wasn't supposed to become this."
But no one believed her anymore.
Within minutes, guests quietly collected their gifts and left.
The reception ended before dinner was even served.
The ballroom that had been prepared for a fairy-tale wedding became a monument to arrogance.
