Chapter 3: The Truth Buried Beneath the Ruins

The judge ordered a recess.

But nobody left.

They wanted answers.

All of them.

When court resumed, Harrington finally told the entire story.

The boy who had saved his son had not acted alone.

There had been another child.

The missing face from the photograph.

A boy named Daniel.

The little boy's grandmother had been Daniel's mother.

Twenty years earlier, Daniel and the accused man had entered the collapsing warehouse together.

Both boys risked their lives.

Both helped rescue Harrington's trapped son.

But only one came back out.

Daniel disappeared beneath the rubble.

His body was never found.

Months later, Harrington secretly paid officials to alter reports.

Not to protect himself.

To protect his reputation.

The investigation revealed dangerous safety violations in one of Harrington's companies.

If the truth became public, his empire would collapse.

So he buried the evidence.

Buried Daniel's role.

Buried the rescue.

Buried everything.

The accused man had spent years trying to expose what happened.

That was why he had accessed Harrington's private records.

Not to steal money.

But to find proof.

The prosecutor's entire case suddenly unraveled.

Every financial document the accused man had obtained pointed toward the same thing:

Fraud.

Cover-ups.

Bribery.

And the destruction of evidence.

The courtroom watched as investigators reviewed files that had remained hidden for two decades.

Then the little boy stood.

Everyone turned toward him.

"My grandma said Daniel was my grandfather."

The room froze.

The boy looked down at the old bracelet.

"He never came home."

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Not even Harrington.

May you like

Especially not Harrington.

Because for the first time in twenty years, he understood the true cost of the lie.
