Chapter 3: The Truth Beneath the Rain

Three days later, Michael, Emily, and Daniel sat inside a small cottage on the edge of town.
Martha Reyes was waiting for them.
Age had bent her shoulders.
But guilt had weighed even heavier.
Tears filled her eyes when she saw Emily.
"I wanted to tell you," she whispered. "Every day I wanted to tell you."
Michael's voice trembled.
"Tell us what?"
Martha looked toward the rain outside the window.
"The accident wasn't an accident."
Emily stopped breathing.
Martha continued.
"That night, Richard followed your mother."
Michael's hands clenched.
"He wanted control of the company. Your mother discovered financial fraud and planned to expose him."
The room spun.
Years of assumptions shattered in seconds.
Martha explained everything.
Richard forced their car off the road during a storm.
Emily survived.
Her mother didn't.
But Richard used his influence to bury the evidence.
Witnesses disappeared.
Reports were altered.
And Martha was threatened into silence.
Daniel listened quietly.
Then Martha revealed one final truth.
Before she died, Emily's mother had left a recorded message.
A message intended for her daughter.
Martha handed Emily a small flash drive.
With trembling hands, Emily pressed play.
Her mother's voice filled the room.
Soft.
Warm.
Alive.
"Emily, if you're hearing this, remember one thing."
Emily's tears flowed freely.
"You are stronger than any tragedy."
The room fell silent.
Even Michael couldn't stop crying.
