CHAPTER 2 – The Fall of a King
CHAPTER 2 – The Fall of a King
Damian refused to surrender.
Not yet.
Inside his penthouse that night, he gathered the few executives who still answered his calls.
"There has to be something."
"A loophole."
"A contract."
"Anything."
No one answered.
One by one...
Their phones buzzed.
Resignation notices.
Legal subpoenas.
Frozen bank accounts.
Even Damian's personal attorney slowly stood.
"I'm sorry."
"I can't represent you anymore."
He quietly placed the signed resignation letter on the table before walking out.
The apartment suddenly felt enormous.
And empty.
Veronica paced nervously.
"This is your fault!"
"You told me she was nobody!"
Damian exploded.
"You spent years mocking her!"
"You pushed her out of every meeting!"
"You told everyone she was finished!"
Veronica froze.
For the first time...
Neither of them had anyone left to blame.
The following morning, federal investigators arrived.
The lead investigator presented a warrant.
"Damian Cross."
"You are under investigation for corporate fraud, embezzlement, market manipulation, and conspiracy."
Cameras flashed outside the building.
Employees watched from the lobby.
Some cried.
Others applauded.
As Damian was escorted toward the waiting vehicle, he looked across the street.
Elena stood alone.
No reporters surrounded her.
No bodyguards.
No celebration.
Only quiet dignity.
Their eyes met one final time.
"You won," Damian muttered.
Elena gently shook her head.
"This was never about winning."
"It was about ending what should never have begun."
The car door closed.
Damian disappeared behind the tinted glass.
The man who once controlled billions entered the courthouse with nothing.
