CHAPTER 2 — THE WOMAN THEY THREW AWAY

The silence after the mansion went dark was deafening.

Snow continued to fall around Evelyn and her twins.

Behind her, black SUVs rolled through the gates.

In front of her, Graham looked like a man watching his entire life collapse.

"What did you do?" he demanded.

Evelyn adjusted the blanket around one of the babies.

"Nothing."

Her gray eyes met his.

"I simply stopped protecting you."

Within minutes, attorneys, accountants, and security personnel entered the estate.

Vivian grabbed Graham's arm.

"Tell them to leave."

No one listened.

Because for the first time, they weren't taking orders from Graham.

They were taking orders from Evelyn Vale.

The billionaire owner of Vale International Holdings.

The woman they had mocked for years.

A lawyer approached carrying a folder.

"Mr. Graham Prescott," he said calmly. "You have been removed as acting CEO effective immediately."

Graham stared.

"No."

The lawyer handed him the documents.

"The board vote was unanimous."

His hands trembled.

Years earlier, when his company had nearly gone bankrupt, Evelyn had secretly rescued it through a series of holding companies.

She had never taken credit.

She had never exposed him.

She had simply loved him.

Now that love was gone.

And without it, everything he had built on her support began to crumble.

For the first time, fear appeared in his eyes.

Real fear.
