Two hours later, the hospital was quieter, but security remained outside the door.
Ellie was moved to a private recovery suite. Baby Noah slept beside her.
Amanda stayed.
Ellie finally broke the silence.
“He planned all of this… didn’t he?”
Amanda nodded slowly.
“Caleb knew your family wouldn’t protect you,” she said. “So he built protection that activates only when they expose themselves.”
Ellie looked down at Noah.
“So this wasn’t just money…”
Amanda shook her head.
“It was a trap.”
At that moment, a nurse entered with a sealed envelope.
“Delivered for Mrs. Morgan,” she said.
Ellie hesitated before opening it.
Inside was a handwritten letter.
Caleb’s handwriting.
Her hands shook as she read.
“If you are reading this, then I am gone, and they have already tried to take what matters most.
Do not trust anger. Do not respond to fear.
Everything I built was never for them. It was for you and Noah.”
Ellie pressed the letter to her chest, tears falling silently.
Amanda looked away, giving her privacy for the first time.
Outside the room, Victor was still not gone.
