Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Veil

The silence inside the boutique became almost unbearable.

The wealthy socialite, Victoria Ashcroft, blinked several times, convinced she had misheard.

"The... owner?" she repeated.

The store manager nodded respectfully.

"Not only the owner of this boutique, ma'am. Miss Evelyn Carter is the sole designer of every gown displayed here. She also owns the international bridal brand that supplies more than forty luxury boutiques across Europe and North America."

A wave of whispers swept through the showroom.

One sales assistant quietly covered her mouth.

Another customer immediately lowered the phone she had been using to record the confrontation.

Victoria's confident smile vanished.

"That's impossible," she snapped. "She arrived alone... without security... without assistants."

Evelyn gently adjusted the sleeve of her wedding dress.

"I've learned that the easiest way to know how people truly are..."

She paused, meeting Victoria's eyes.

"...is to let them believe you have nothing."

The manager stepped forward again.

"Miss Carter specifically instructed us not to announce her identity. She wanted to experience the boutique as an ordinary bride before today's private launch."

Every employee lowered their heads in embarrassment.

None of them had defended her.

None of them had spoken when she was slapped.

Victoria suddenly realized that dozens of phones were now pointed in her direction instead.
