Chapter 1: The Bride Who Owned the Palace

The ballroom remained frozen.
No one breathed.
No one spoke.
Patricia Whitlock stared at the ownership contract as if the words themselves had betrayed her.
"That's impossible," she whispered.
"I personally approved this venue months ago."
The venue manager remained respectfully bowed before Clara.
"You approved the reservation, Mrs. Whitlock."
"But Miss Mason purchased the estate nearly a year ago."
Gasps swept across the ballroom.
Andrew grabbed the contract from the manager's hands, scanning every page.
The signatures.
The legal seals.
Everything was genuine.
He looked at Clara with unfamiliar eyes.
"You... never told me."
Clara smiled sadly.
"You never asked."
Patricia stepped forward, her voice trembling with anger.
"So you lied to my family!"
"No."
Clara calmly shook her head.
"I simply refused to introduce myself through my bank account."
Silence.
She slowly lifted a torn piece of her wedding dress from the floor.
"I wanted someone to love me before they loved my wealth."
Her words landed harder than any scream.
Andrew lowered his head.
For the first time, he realized every expensive dinner, every vacation, every anonymous donation that had saved his struggling business during the past year...
Had all come from Clara.
Without ever asking for credit.
The venue manager spoke again.
"Madam."
"The reception may continue whenever you wish."
Clara looked around the ballroom.
Then quietly answered,
"There won't be a wedding."
The orchestra stopped completely.
Three hundred guests watched a marriage end before the vows had even begun.
