Chapter 2: The Price of Silence

Andrew suddenly dropped to one knee.
Not to propose.
To beg.
"Please... don't end this."
"I didn't know."
"You have to believe me."
Clara stared at him.
"No."
"You knew enough."
"You watched your mother humiliate me."
"You watched her destroy something I spent six months creating."
"And your first instinct..."
"...was to ask me to apologize."
Andrew lowered his head.
He had no defense.
Meanwhile Patricia finally recovered.
"This changes nothing."
"It was only a dress."
The venue manager quietly cleared his throat.
"Actually, Mrs. Whitlock..."
"It changes everything."
He handed Patricia another document.
Her hands began shaking.
"What is this?"
"A damage claim."
Patricia laughed.
"For one dress?"
The manager calmly replied,
"The gown was insured."
"For one point eight million dollars."
The laughter vanished.
"It contains handwoven Italian silk, antique French lace, and custom embroidery using heirloom pearls from Miss Mason's family collection."
Patricia nearly dropped the papers.
Before anyone could speak...
Several board members entered the ballroom.
They approached Clara.
One after another...
They bowed.
"Chairwoman."
Every investor in attendance realized the truth.
The quiet bride they had ignored...
Was also the majority owner of the company funding the luxury estate's entire redevelopment project.
Andrew closed his eyes.
His career...
His family's influence...
Every future business opportunity connected to the estate...
Had disappeared in one afternoon.
Not because Clara sought revenge.
But because they had revealed exactly who they were.
