Chapter 2: The Woman Who Kept the Secret

Three days later, Amelia sat across from the woman she had always called Mother.

Margaret Dawson looked exhausted.

For years she had hidden a secret that could no longer survive.

“I never wanted to hurt you,” Margaret whispered.

Amelia's eyes filled with tears.

“Then tell me the truth.”

Margaret lowered her head.

Twenty years earlier, she had worked as a nurse at St. Mary's Hospital.

At the time, she had lost her own baby during childbirth.

The grief consumed her.

Then one terrible night, she made the worst decision of her life.

She took another child.

Amelia.

“I told myself I was saving you,” Margaret cried. “I told myself I would be a good mother.”

Amelia covered her mouth.

The confession shattered her heart.

“You stole me.”

Margaret nodded.

“Yes.”

The room fell silent.

For a moment, anger filled Amelia's chest.

But when she looked at the woman who had raised her, taught her to read, comforted her during nightmares, and cared for her through every illness, she saw not a monster.

She saw a broken woman who had made a terrible choice.

Meanwhile, Eleanor received the final DNA results.

The report confirmed everything.

Amelia Carter was her biological daughter.

The child she had lost.

The daughter she thought she would never see again.

But another problem remained.

Amelia and Eleanor were finally reunited.

Yet years of separation could not disappear overnight.

Trust would have to be rebuilt.

Love would have to be earned.

And the wedding remained unfinished.

No one knew whether it would ever happen.
