Chapter 2: The Letter That Destroyed an Engagement

Victor's trembling hands opened Anna's letter.

His voice barely carried across the silent ballroom.

"Dad...

If Lily is standing before you, then I am already gone.

I never left because I stopped loving my family.

I left because someone inside this house tried to kill us."

Gasps spread through the guests.

Victor slowly looked up.

The woman in the sapphire gown had gone completely pale.

Anna's letter continued.

"Charlotte knows the truth.

She paid someone to force my car off the mountain road.

She believed my child died with me.

If she is still inside this family...

Lily will never be safe."

Victor lowered the letter.

His eyes burned with disbelief.

"Charlotte..."

The woman immediately shook her head.

"She's lying!"

But another voice interrupted.

"I don't think she is."

The elderly butler stepped forward carrying a locked wooden box.

"I kept this because Miss Anna asked me to."

Inside were hospital records...

Police reports...

Photographs...

And a flash drive.

Victor handed it to the ballroom technician.

The security screen illuminated the room.

Dashcam footage appeared.

A black SUV deliberately rammed Anna's vehicle.

The driver's face became visible.

Charlotte's personal bodyguard.

The same man still employed by her family.

The ballroom erupted.

Charlotte stumbled backward.

"No..."

"It wasn't supposed to happen like that..."

She covered her mouth.

Realizing she had confessed.

Her wealthy fiancé slowly removed the engagement ring from his finger.

Without saying a word...

He placed it into her shaking hand.

"It's over."
