CHAPTER 3: THE HIDDEN FILE

Later that afternoon, Officer Sarah brought Emma to the police station.

A social worker was called.

Warm food was prepared.

For the first time in weeks, Emma ate until she couldn't eat anymore.

But something kept bothering Sarah.

The child seemed familiar.

Very familiar.

That evening, Sarah reviewed Emma's information.

No birth certificate.

No official records.

No registered relatives.

Almost as if the little girl had disappeared from the system entirely.

Then Sarah noticed something unusual.

Around Emma's neck hung a tiny silver necklace.

Attached to it was a small metal charm engraved with a symbol.

Sarah's heart skipped a beat.

She had seen that symbol before.

Years ago.

In an unsolved missing-child case.

Her hands shook as she searched the archives.

Finally, she found the file.

Eight years earlier, a wealthy businessman's daughter had vanished during a kidnapping attempt.

The case had shocked the entire country.

The child was never found.

Sarah stared at the old photograph.

Then she looked at Emma.

The same eyes.

The same birthmark near her left ear.

The same necklace.

The room suddenly felt smaller.

Emma wasn't just an orphan.

She might be the missing daughter everyone had been searching for.

And if that was true...

Someone had hidden the truth for eight long years.
