Chapter 1: The Woman He Never Knew

For several endless seconds...
Nobody moved.
Two hundred guests stood frozen beneath the glittering chandeliers, unable to process what they had just heard.
"Mommy."
The word echoed through the silent ballroom.
Logan stared at his son.
Six years.
Six years of silence...
And Noah's very first word belonged to a woman Logan barely knew.
Vanessa recovered first.
"What is the meaning of this?" she demanded, forcing a laugh that sounded painfully hollow. "He's confused."
She stepped toward Noah.
The little boy immediately tightened his grip around Marina.
His tiny body began shaking violently.
"No..."
It wasn't loud.
But it was clear.
Crystal clear.
"No... don't make me go."
The second sentence shattered whatever disbelief remained.
Logan felt his stomach twist.
Noah had never spoken.
Not once.
Yet now words poured out effortlessly.
Only because he believed he was finally safe.
Marina slowly knelt beside him.
Her voice was gentle.
"You don't have to be afraid."
Noah buried his face deeper into her shoulder.
Logan noticed something impossible.
Marina wasn't asking questions.
She wasn't surprised by Noah's fear.
She was comforting him like she'd done it before.
"When have you met my son?" Logan asked quietly.
Marina hesitated.
Vanessa answered instead.
"Never."
Too quickly.
Far too quickly.
Logan looked from one woman to the other.
Then he noticed the security director approaching.
"Sir..."
He lowered his voice.
"The housekeeper requested several times to report concerns about Master Noah."
Logan blinked.
"I never received anything."
The director swallowed.
"They were intercepted."
His eyes shifted toward Vanessa.
Every piece suddenly began sliding into place.
Marina finally spoke.
"I worked nights at your estate."
She kept one hand gently rubbing Noah's back.
"He couldn't sleep."
"He cried after everyone else went to bed."
"He would hide inside the laundry room."
Logan felt sick.
"I thought someone already knew."
"No one listened."
Vanessa's perfect smile finally disappeared.
For the first time that night...
She looked afraid.
