Chapter 4: Justice Beyond Money

Chapter 4: Justice Beyond Money
Months later, the probate court reopened Daniel's father's estate.
This time every document was examined independently.
The judge ruled that Eleanor had obtained control of the estate through fraud.
The original inheritance was restored.
Daniel became majority owner of his father's company.
The first thing he did surprised everyone.
He refused the executive office.
Instead, he appointed experienced professionals to run the business while he created the Carter Foundation.
Sarah became its co-founder.
The foundation paid for advanced prosthetic limbs, rehabilitation programs, and long-term physical therapy for people who had lost limbs but could never afford treatment.
During its first year alone, more than four hundred patients received life-changing care.
At the opening ceremony, reporters asked Sarah whether she hated Eleanor.
Sarah looked down at her new prosthetic.
Then smiled.
"No."
"Hatred would mean she still controls my life."
"She doesn't."
"What happened to me gave someone else a second chance."
"That's enough."
Daniel quietly took her hand.
