Chapter 3 — The Accountant Nobody Noticed
Forty minutes later, three black vehicles quietly stopped outside the restaurant.
No flashing lights.
No sirens.
Just professionals in dark suits.
Inside, the celebration continued.
Until the maître d' approached Evangelina.
"Mrs. Ibarra..."
She smiled.
"Yes?"
"There are several visitors requesting Mr. Alonso."
Alonso turned.
His face turned white.
The lead investigator stepped forward.
"Mr. Alonso Ibarra?"
"...Yes."
"We'd like to ask you several questions regarding financial records submitted this evening."
Evangelina laughed dismissively.
"This must be some misunderstanding."
The investigator calmly removed a folder.
"It contains six years of accounting records."
He looked directly at Renata.
"We believe they were prepared by Mrs. Renata Ibarra."
Every head slowly turned toward her.
Renata stood quietly near the doorway.
For years they had mocked her for being "just an accountant."
None of them had realized she had personally reconciled every ledger...
reviewed every transfer...
and quietly saved every irregular transaction in encrypted backups.
