Chapter 2: Truth Before Everyone

Margaret tried to recover first.
"This woman is lying!"
"She's trying to destroy us because she's jealous!"
But before anyone could answer...
One of the investigators connected a projector to the ballroom screen.
Financial records appeared.
Bank transfers.
Forged signatures.
Private emails.
Video footage from security cameras.
Every document matched perfectly.
Gasps spread across the ballroom.
Several board members immediately stepped away from Margaret.
My husband stared at the screen in disbelief.
"You... you knew?"
I nodded.
"I discovered everything over a year ago."
"Every illegal transfer."
"Every fake charity expense."
"Every threat made against employees who questioned your mother."
His face turned pale.
"You should have told me."
I almost laughed.
"When?"
"The night you watched your mother scream at our daughter?"
"The day you told me to stay silent?"
"Or tonight..."
"When you slapped me before asking a single question?"
He had no answer.
Instead...
An elderly board member slowly stood.
"I resign."
Another followed.
"So do I."
Within minutes...
Nearly half the board publicly voted to remove Margaret as chairwoman.
The investigators informed her she would accompany them for questioning.
For the first time in decades...
Margaret looked afraid.
Not angry.
Not proud.
Afraid.
As officers escorted her away, she turned toward my daughter.
My little girl instinctively hid behind me.
Margaret opened her mouth...
Then stopped.
No insults came.
No threats.
She knew she had already lost everything.
