Chapter 1: The Board Chooses Its Queen

The moment the mansion doors closed behind Isabella, the shouting inside became meaningless.

She never looked back.

Her assistant opened the rear door of the first black sedan.

"The directors are waiting, ma'am."

Isabella nodded once.

"Let's end this."

The convoy disappeared into the night.

Twenty minutes later...

The executive boardroom of Ashford Holdings overlooked the entire city.

Twenty-three directors stood the moment Isabella entered.

Not one remained seated.

"Good evening, Chairwoman."

Lucas had never heard anyone address his wife that way.

Because she had made sure he never would.

She preferred watching people reveal themselves before revealing her own power.

Isabella placed the unsigned divorce papers onto the polished conference table.

"Begin."

A projector lit up.

Every acquisition.

Every investment.

Every hidden share purchase.

Every financial rescue.

One after another, the truth unfolded.

Four years earlier, Lucas's company had been one month from bankruptcy.

Banks had refused additional credit.

Investors had fled.

Employees had quietly prepared resumes.

Then one anonymous investment group had appeared.

Capital arrived overnight.

Contracts followed.

Expansion became possible.

Lucas called it his greatest business victory.

Tonight he learned the investor had always been Isabella.

Director Mason adjusted his glasses.

"The acquisition is complete."

Another director nodded.

"Eighty-one percent voting control has officially transferred."

"The former CEO has been removed."

"The executive committee has approved your appointment."

Isabella signed one document.

Nothing more.

"No celebration," she said calmly.

"We have work to do."

Meanwhile...

Across town...

Lucas stormed into his corporate headquarters.

His security badge flashed red.

He frowned.

Tried again.

Red.

"What nonsense is this?"

The receptionist stood.

"I'm... I'm sorry, Mr. Bennett."

Two security officers approached.

One extended a formal envelope.

"Per instruction from the Board of Directors, your employment has been terminated effective immediately."

Lucas laughed.

Then stopped.

Nobody else did.

"This is my company!"

The senior officer remained expressionless.

"It isn't anymore."

Employees gathered silently around the lobby.

The same people Lucas had ordered around for years.

No one defended him.

No one moved.

His phone rang.

Richard.

Lucas answered immediately.

"They've frozen everything!"

Richard shouted.

"Our personal credit lines..."

"The banks..."

"They've all been suspended!"

Lucas felt something he had never experienced before.

Fear.

Real fear.

Not of losing money.

Of discovering he had never been in control at all.

Far above the city...

Inside the boardroom...

Isabella signed the final page.

"The first phase is complete."

She looked out across the skyline.

"They wanted me to leave quietly."

May you like

A faint smile crossed her face.

"They're about to learn how loud consequences can be."
