Chapter 3: A New Birthday
Chapter 3: A New Birthday
One year later...
The same house looked completely different.
The heavy curtains had been replaced with sunlight.
Fresh flowers covered the dining table.
Children laughed in the garden.
Cream-colored balloons floated gently in the warm afternoon breeze.
This time...
They belonged there.
Valeria stood beneath them wearing another emerald dress.
Only now, the sleeves were short.
There were no bruises left to hide.
The house had been legally returned to Ernesto after the forged transfers were voided.
He immediately placed it in his daughter's name.
"No one," he told her, "will ever steal your home again."
Valeria had also become a volunteer at the Women's Justice Center, helping survivors rebuild lives that once seemed impossible to reclaim.
Many of the women recognized the fear she used to carry in her eyes.
Now they saw hope instead.
As the birthday cake was placed on the table, Ernesto smiled.
"Make a wish."
Valeria closed her eyes.
She didn't wish for revenge.
She didn't wish to forget.
She wished that every woman still living in silence would someday hear someone ask the same question her father had asked.
"My daughter... who did this to your face?"
Because sometimes...
One question is all it takes to begin saving a life.
The candles flickered.

She opened her eyes.
This time, surrounded by people who truly loved her, Valeria blew them out with a smile that no one would ever silence again.
