CHAPTER 2: THE HONEYMOON ENDS IN HANDCUFFS

Alexander didn't speak for nearly a minute.
He simply stood.
Straightened the sleeves of his wrinkled suit.
Then looked at Sofia.
"They touched my daughter once."
His voice was calm.
"They'll answer for every bruise."
Within an hour, the quiet house became the center of a storm.
Alexander wasn't just a father.
He had spent thirty years as one of the state's most respected criminal attorneys.
He knew judges.
He knew detectives.
More importantly...
He knew exactly how abusers destroyed evidence.
Before sunrise, a forensic photographer documented every injury on Sofia's body.
A doctor examined her.
Every bruise.
Every cut.
Every fingerprint-shaped mark on her arms.
Every injury became evidence.
Meanwhile Elena searched through Sofia's purse.
"What are you looking for?" Sofia asked weakly.
"The truth."
Inside the small white handbag, Elena found something unexpected.
A tiny digital recorder.
Sofia frowned.
"I forgot that was there."
"I bought it months ago because Carmen always made me nervous."
Her trembling fingers pressed PLAY.
The room filled with voices.
Carmen laughed.
"So stubborn."
A loud slap echoed through the recording.
Another.
Another.
Then Javier's unmistakable voice came from outside the hotel room.
"Just don't leave bruises where guests can see them."
Silence.
Alexander slowly closed his eyes.
When he opened them again...
There wasn't a trace of mercy left.
By eight that morning, detectives had obtained an emergency warrant.
Hotel security surrendered every surveillance recording.
The footage showed Javier leading his mother and five women toward the honeymoon suite.
It showed him standing outside while the assault continued inside.
It showed Sofia escaping nearly an hour later, barefoot, bleeding, still wearing her wedding dress.
By noon...
Police cars surrounded Carmen's mansion.
She opened the front door wearing silk pajamas and an arrogant smile.
"This must be some misunderstanding."
The detective held up the warrant.
"No, Mrs. Alvarez."
"It's a felony."
The smile disappeared.
Handcuffs clicked around her wrists.
Across town...
Television cameras were already arriving.
The honeymoon had officially become a criminal investigation.
