Chapter 3: The Birthday Dinner

Two nights later, Claire hosted another birthday celebration.
Family members filled the dining room.
Everyone believed the sisters had privately settled their disagreement.
Claire smiled confidently across the table.
"So..."
"I guess families always forgive each other."
Their mother happily nodded.
"I'm proud of both of you."
Ethan reached for Emma's hand.
She let him.
Then dessert arrived.
Emma slowly stood.
"I actually brought one last birthday gift."
She placed a small black folder in front of Claire.
Claire smiled.
"You didn't have to."
She opened it.
The smile disappeared instantly.
Inside were color copies of bank transfers.
Property deeds.
Corporate filings.
Hotel receipts.
Security camera timestamps.
Every page carried official certification.
Claire's hands began shaking.
Ethan's face turned white.
Emma calmly pulled a television remote from her purse.
The large screen behind the dining table lit up.
A timeline appeared.
Every transfer.
Every forged signature.
Every hidden purchase.
Every secret meeting.
The room fell silent.
Then came the final slide.
Video footage from the condominium lobby.
Ethan and Claire entered together...
The very same afternoon Emma attended her grandmother's funeral.
Nobody spoke.
Their mother slowly lowered her fork.
Their father closed his eyes.
Claire whispered,
"Emma..."

But Emma simply turned off the screen.
"I'm done explaining."
