He Threw Her Out of Her Own Hotel / Chapter 1 / 3 137

Chapter 1: The Empire Changes Hands

Marcus Bennett walked into the executive boardroom the next morning wearing the same confident smile that had graced magazine covers for years.

His assistants hurried behind him.

Board members stood as he entered.

Or at least...

They usually did.

Today, no one moved.

The room felt strangely cold.

At the head of the polished walnut table sat six unfamiliar attorneys.

Beside them was the company's Chief Financial Officer.

And standing quietly near the windows...

Was Isabella.

She wore a charcoal business suit instead of the elegant evening gown from the night before.

Her eyes were calm.

There were no tears.

No anger.

Only peace.

Marcus frowned.

"What is this?"

The CFO slowly slid a thick leather folder across the table.

"Our ownership audit."

Marcus barely glanced at it.

"I don't have time for paperwork."

One attorney spoke.

"You'll want to read page three."

Marcus opened the folder.

His confident smile slowly disappeared.

Hotel ownership.

Parent corporation.

Voting shares.

Beneficial trust.

Every document carried the same signature.

Richard Harrington.

Isabella's father.

Marcus laughed nervously.

"This has to be some mistake."

The lead attorney calmly shook his head.

"For eleven years, you served as Chief Executive Officer under a renewable management agreement."

Marcus stared.

"No."

"You never owned the hotels, Mr. Bennett."

"You were hired to operate them."

Silence filled the room.

The attorney continued.

"Last night your contract was terminated."

Marcus stood so quickly his chair crashed onto the marble floor.

"You can't fire me!"

Richard Harrington entered the room without raising his voice.

"We already did."

Marcus looked from Isabella to Richard.

"You planned this."

Isabella finally spoke.

"No."

"I protected you."

"For eleven years."

"You destroyed yourself yesterday."

The CFO pressed a button.

Every screen inside the boardroom changed simultaneously.

Management Access:

TERMINATED.

Corporate Authority:

REVOKED.

Bank Authorization:

CANCELED.

Marcus grabbed his phone.

No signal inside the secure boardroom.

His assistant rushed inside moments later.

"Sir..."

She stopped herself.

"I'm sorry..."

"Mr. Bennett..."

"Every hotel manager has already received the new ownership directive."

"The staff no longer answers to you."

For the first time in eleven years...

Marcus realized he wasn't losing one hotel.

He was losing every single one.
