Chapter 2: The Woman Behind the Mask

The courtroom overflowed with reporters.

Cassandra entered wearing an elegant gray suit, hoping confidence would save her reputation.

But no one looked at her with admiration anymore.

Only disgust.

The prosecutor played recording after recording.

Each clip stripped away another layer of the perfect woman she had pretended to be.

Jurors watched in stunned silence.

One servant testified through tears.

"I wanted to help Lily... but Cassandra threatened to destroy my family."

Another admitted he had been paid to remain silent.

Then Marcus took the witness stand.

He never insulted Cassandra.

He never shouted.

He simply described the day he realized his daughter no longer smiled.

Finally, the judge allowed one last piece of evidence.

A drawing.

Lily's drawing.

It showed herself sitting beside a dog bowl while a woman stood above her.

Across the top, written in shaky handwriting, were six heartbreaking words.

"Daddy, please don't leave me again."

The courtroom fell silent.

Several jurors wiped away tears.

Even the court reporter paused.

Cassandra lowered her eyes for the first time.

She finally understood something no amount of beauty or wealth could change.

The truth never forgets.

Hours later, the verdict arrived.

Guilty.

On every major count.

As deputies placed handcuffs around her wrists, she looked toward Marcus.

"I loved you..."

Marcus answered quietly.

"No."

"You loved control."

Without another word, he turned away.

He never looked back.
