Chapter 1 – The Empire Without a King

Marcus laughed when the security scanner rejected his executive card.

"There must be a mistake."

He tried again.

ACCESS DENIED.

A third time.

The red light blinked once more.

Around him, executives who had been applauding him only an hour earlier slowly stepped back.

His assistant hurried toward him, pale-faced.

"Mr. Hale... I—I can't access your calendar anymore."

Marcus frowned.

"What?"

"My administrator privileges are gone."

His phone buzzed relentlessly.

One message after another.

Executive permissions revoked.

Board meeting initiated.

Emergency ownership review.

His smile disappeared.

Across the city, Isabella sat inside the back seat of a black Rolls-Royce beside her father.

Chairman Edward Sinclair quietly reviewed several legal folders.

"You hid everything well."

"I never wanted to use it," Isabella answered.

Edward nodded.

"I know."

For eleven years she had allowed Marcus to believe he was the architect of the empire.

In reality...

Every hotel.

Every resort.

Every international holding company.

Had always been owned by the Sinclair Family Trust.

Marcus had merely served as its highest-paid executive.

Nothing more.

Inside headquarters, the emergency board meeting began.

The company's chief legal counsel projected hundreds of confidential documents onto the screen.

Marriage date.

Trust agreements.

Corporate ownership.

Voting rights.

Every signature belonged to Isabella.

Not Marcus.

The room fell silent.

One elderly board member finally spoke.

"So Marcus never owned this company?"

The attorney answered quietly.

"He never owned a single share."

Marcus burst into the boardroom.

"This meeting is over."

No one moved.

He looked toward the chairman.

"Tell them."

Instead...

The chairman slowly slid one folder across the polished table.

"Read page twelve."

Marcus opened it.

His face slowly drained of color.

The signature at the bottom wasn't his.

It was Isabella's.

May you like

Everything...

Had always belonged to her.
