Chapter 1: The Footage No One Could Escape

The ambulance doors slammed shut as paramedics rushed Sophie toward the emergency room.

Evelyn never left her daughter's side.

Back at the Whitmore Hotel, the wedding reception had dissolved into nervous whispers.

Preston tried to regain control.

"It was self-defense," he insisted. "She stole from me."

His parents immediately defended him.

"Everyone saw the phone in her pocket," his father declared.

But before anyone could resume the celebration, two police officers entered the ballroom.

Behind them walked the hotel's security manager carrying a laptop.

"I'm afraid no one is leaving," the manager said calmly.

"We've reviewed the ballroom surveillance footage."

The room fell silent.

The video played across the giant projector intended for the wedding slideshow.

Guests watched Preston approach Sophie's chair while everyone was distracted by the bride's speech.

He glanced over both shoulders.

Reached into his jacket.

Pulled out his titanium iPhone.

Then quietly slipped it into the pocket of Sophie's little denim jacket.

Gasps filled the ballroom.

One guest whispered,

"Oh my God..."

Another stood up.

"He framed that little girl."

The footage continued.

Seconds later, Preston marched to the microphone.

Pretended to search for his missing phone.

Then walked directly toward Sophie.

Every movement had been rehearsed.

Every accusation planned.

His bride slowly stepped away from him.

Her face turned pale.

"You... did this?"

Preston couldn't answer.

For the first time in his life...

The golden child had nowhere left to hide.
