Within minutes, the hotel's boardroom filled with directors, attorneys, and senior executives.
Marcus stormed inside.
"I demand an explanation!"
The company's chief legal counsel calmly slid a thick binder across the polished table.
"You signed every annual report."
Marcus nodded impatiently.
"So?"
"You never read the ownership structure."
The attorney opened the first page.
"Eleven years ago, Ashford Holdings financed the rescue of your bankrupt hotel chain."
Another page turned.
"The financing was never converted into debt."
Another page.
"It was converted into permanent controlling equity."
Marcus stared silently.
Then came the final document.
A trust agreement signed by Isabella's late mother.
The clause was simple.
If Marcus ever intentionally harmed Isabella or attempted to remove her from the company, Ashford Holdings would immediately reclaim full operational control.
Marcus looked at Isabella.
