Chapter 2: The Man Who Could No Longer Enter His Own Hotel
Just before midnight, Marcus stepped into the executive elevator.
His keycard flashed red.
He frowned.
He tried again.
Red.
"System error," he muttered.
The security chief approached carefully.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Carter... your executive credentials have been disabled."
Marcus laughed.
"Disabled? I own this hotel."
The security chief swallowed hard as another notification appeared on his tablet.
"According to corporate headquarters... you no longer have authorization to enter any executive areas."
Marcus's smile disappeared.
He grabbed the tablet.
His own name had vanished from the executive directory.
Replaced by one line.
Acting Chairwoman: Isabella Ashford.
His face turned pale.
"This has to be some kind of mistake."
"It isn't."
The voice came from behind him.
Isabella stepped through the revolving doors.
Calm.
Elegant.
Untouchable.
