CHAPTER 1: THE FALL BEGINS

Silence swallowed the mansion.
Kyle stared at Emily as if he had never seen her before.
On the other end of the call, her father's calm voice echoed through the speaker.
"Emily, are you hurt?"
The question was simple.
But something about it made Kyle's stomach tighten.
Emily glanced at the red marks on her arm and smiled bitterly.
"I'm fine, Dad."
A pause followed.
Then came the answer.
"No. You're not."
The line disconnected.
Nothing happened.
For ten long seconds.
Kyle laughed nervously.
"Was that supposed to scare me?"
Thalia crossed her arms.
"Seriously, Emily? Calling your daddy?"
Then Kyle's phone rang.
His assistant.
He answered immediately.
The color drained from his face.
"What do you mean our investors pulled out?"
Another call came.
Then another.
Then another.
Within minutes, every major partner company began terminating contracts.
Bank accounts were frozen pending investigations.
Share prices crashed.
Projects worth hundreds of millions disappeared before his eyes.
Kyle's hands shook.
"What is happening?"
Emily slowly stood.
For the first time, she looked down at him.
"My father keeps his promises."
