Chapter 3 – The Gift That Saved Two Lives

The news shattered everyone.

Pregnant.

Severely anemic.

Fighting a life-threatening illness.

Every doctor warned that continuing the pregnancy would place enormous strain on Sophie's body.

When Sophie finally regained consciousness, she looked at Daniel with tears in her eyes.

"I'm sorry..."

He squeezed her hand.

"No."

"You never have to apologize for loving us."

Carol stepped beside the bed.

For several seconds, she couldn't speak.

Then she slowly fell to her knees.

"I'm the one who's sorry."

"I called you lazy."

"I judged you."

"I never saw how much pain you were hiding."

Sophie's eyes filled with tears.

Carol gently took her hand.

"From today on..."

"You are my daughter."

The hospital immediately began searching for a bone marrow donor.

Family members were tested.

None matched.

Friends volunteered.

Still no match.

Just as hope began disappearing...

Carol quietly asked to be tested one more time.

The doctors hesitated.

"It's extremely unlikely."

But they agreed.

Three days later, the transplant coordinator entered the room smiling.

"We found a compatible donor."

Everyone turned.

Carol stood silently in the doorway.

"It was me."

Daniel stared in disbelief.

"My mother?"

The doctor nodded.

"The compatibility is remarkably high."

Carol smiled through her tears.

"I couldn't protect you from my words..."

"But maybe I can protect you with my life."

Months later, the transplant was successful.

Sophie's strength slowly returned.

Her pregnancy continued under careful medical supervision.

For the first time in months...

Hope felt real.
