Chapter 1: The Hunters Become the Hunted

No one spoke.
For several endless seconds, the only sound inside the ballroom was the echo of steel locking into place.
Then panic exploded.
"What is this?"
"Open these doors!"
"I'm Senator Whitmore!"
"I own this building!"
Men who had spent their lives giving orders suddenly pounded their fists against solid steel.
Nothing happened.
The reinforced barriers didn't even vibrate.
My attacker grabbed my wrist.
His grip was still strong.
But now it trembled.
"You've lost your mind."
"You think locking us in here is going to save you?"
I looked down at his hand.
"You should let go."
He laughed, forcing confidence.
"Or what?"
The lights suddenly dimmed.
Every conversation stopped.
The giant LED screen behind the orchestra flickered to life.
One sentence appeared.
WELCOME TO ACCOUNTABILITY.
Gasps swept across the ballroom.
Then the security cameras began displaying live footage.
Not from tonight.
From the past.
One video after another.
Executives accepting bribes.
Politicians exchanging envelopes stuffed with cash.
Judges secretly meeting criminal financiers.
Every recording carried an official date, time, and multiple camera angles.
No edits.
No missing pieces.
Pure evidence.
Faces drained of color.
The man holding my wrist slowly released it.
"...Who are you?"
I finally answered.
"My name is Victoria Hale."
"The daughter of the man who built this security network."
"The woman you've spent five years trying to destroy."
Silence.
Recognition spread through the room.
The Hale family.
Everyone had believed my father disappeared after exposing corruption.
They never imagined he had spent those years collecting proof.
Tonight...
The collection was complete.
The ballroom speakers crackled.
Then my father's calm voice filled the room.
"Good evening."
"I've waited a long time for this gathering."
Several guests staggered backward.
Others reached for their phones.
No signal.
Every communication line had already been blocked.
"You believed wealth placed you above justice."
"You believed witnesses could be bought."
"You believed victims would remain silent."
Another screen illuminated.
Outside the estate...
Hundreds of police vehicles surrounded the property.
Helicopters circled overhead.
Every entrance was secured.
Every road was closed.
Nobody was coming to rescue them.
Because the people outside...
Were there to arrest them.
