Chapter 2: A Debt Beyond Money

The next day, Sophia returned.
And the day after that.
Soon the market vendors became accustomed to seeing luxury cars parked beside the tiny porridge stall.
Rumors spread quickly.
Everyone wanted to know why one of the country's most successful beauty entrepreneurs spent her mornings sitting beside an old vendor.
But Sophia never explained.
Instead, she listened.
She learned that the elderly woman, Mrs. Lin, had lived alone for years.
Her husband had passed away.
Her only son had died in an accident.
The stall was all she had left.
Yet despite her hardships, she continued feeding hungry strangers whenever she could.
"Why?" Sophia asked one morning.
Mrs. Lin smiled.
"Because somebody once helped me when I needed it."
The answer hit Sophia harder than any business lesson she had ever learned.
That afternoon, Sophia quietly instructed her assistant to investigate the market.
What she discovered shocked her.
The entire area had been sold to a development company.
Within two months, every vendor would be forced out.
Including Mrs. Lin.
When Sophia informed her, the old woman simply nodded.
"It's alright," she said.
"I've had a good life."
Sophia shook her head.
"No."
The next week, the city woke up to surprising news.
The president of the country's largest beauty chain had purchased the entire property.
Every vendor would be allowed to remain.
Rent-free.
For life.
Reporters flooded the market.
Cameras flashed everywhere.

But when journalists asked Sophia why she spent millions saving an old market, she gave only one answer.
"Because one bowl of porridge was worth far more."
