CHAPTER 2 — THE FALL OF ARROGANCE

Chloe stumbled back slightly, her heels scraping the marble floor.
“That’s not true,” she said quickly, forcing a laugh. “You’re the most powerful man in the city.”
But her voice no longer carried confidence—only panic.
The man in white shirt finally looked at her.
Not angry.
Not offended.
Just disappointed.
“I don’t compete for titles,” he said calmly. “I build systems.”
He stepped closer to the center of the hall.
Every guest instinctively stepped back.
His voice remained steady.
“Your husband didn’t become powerful because of talent.”
A pause.
“He became powerful because I allowed it.”
Chloe’s lips parted, but no words came out.
Her husband closed his eyes briefly.
Like accepting a truth he had lived with but never spoken.
“You were never supposed to know who I am,” the man continued.
Then his gaze shifted to Chloe.
