The tension was no longer loudâit was suffocating.
The husband finally sat down, unable to stand anymore. The wealthy woman remained standing, but her posture had changed⊠less powerful, more fragile.
The server placed the folded paper on the table.
It contained an old hospital record.
Server (soft, controlled):
âMy mother worked here years ago⊠she said she fell in love with a man who disappeared after she became pregnant.â
Silence.
The husband closed his eyes.
A long pause.
Then he spoke.
Husband (low voice):
âI never knewâŠâ
The wealthy woman turned sharply.
Wealthy Woman:
âWhat do you mean you never knew?â
The husband finally looked at her.
Not with guiltâbut with shock.
Husband:
âI had a twin brother.â
The room went silent again.
Husband (continuing):
âHe left the family years ago. No one knows where he went.â
The serverâs eyes widened slightly.
The photograph trembled in her hands.
